Eligibility

Low-to-no Income

All patients must be 300% or lower of the federal poverty line (see income verification).

Dentally Uninsured

We do not accept any patient with dental insurance (including Medicaid). We encourage all patients with insurance to reach out to our partner dental offices for an appointment.

Income Verification

All established patients must provide a proof of income, including: a copy of their most recent paystub, a statement of benefits (SNAP eligibility, social security statement, etc.), or a signed letter from a case manager.

The Pay-what-you-can Model

No matter the service, we ask that each patient contribute what they can towards the cost of care.

“How much does it actually cost?”

The average cost per patient is $127 for treatment. That’s actual operating cost our clinic needs to keep going.

The average fees in South Carolina for dentistry are much higher than our operating costs. We’re grateful to partner with agencies and volunteers to keep costs as low as possible for our patients, but we still need patient contributions to stay in operation.

“What are your fees?”

We do not charge fees. We ask that patients contribute to the cost of their care. If every patient could contribute $127 at their appointment, our clinic could continue at our current level of operations.

We understand that may be out of reach for some patients, so we request a minimum donation of at least $25 at their appointment to help offset the cost.

“Why isn’t it free?”

We could not continue operating! Just like our patients, we have to keep our lights on. Patient contributions help us partner with our community to keep the North Charleston Dental Outreach available for everyone in need of basic dental care.

Our Services

We aim to serve our community by providing access to basic dental care. We currently offer new patient exams, fillings, cleanings, and extractions.

All services are subject to availability. Call us at 843-740-7114 for more information.

  • We start with a screening. We’ll take full mouth x-rays to create a practical treatment plan for each patient.

  • In partnership with Trident Technical College, we offer basic hygiene services for our established patients, including deep cleanings.

  • In partnership with the Medical University of South Carolina, we provide fillings for our established patients.

  • We offer limited, same day emergency extractions for patients in severe tooth pain.

Next Steps

  • Have a dental emergency and need an extraction? We accept walk-ins on Tuesday evenings and Thursday mornings. All walk in patients must arrive before 6pm on Tuesdays or 8am on Thursdays.
