Meet Christina! A Charleston resident since childhood, embodies resilience and faith. Diagnosed with diabetes at 32, she soon faced blindness from glaucoma, forcing her to stop working. In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, an untreated leg injury led to an amputation. On top of that, she battles severe kidney disease, now relying on dialysis while awaiting a transplant. However, she can’t be listed for a transplant until her oral health improves due to its critical impact on transplant success. Repeated Medicaid denials left her without dental care, but North Charleston Dental Outreach has stepped in to provide the necessary treatment and support.

Meet Dr. Clement Hilary! His life has been a profound testament to faith, resilience, and compassion. Born into a Christian family in Bangladesh, where Christians comprise just 1% of the population, Dr. Hilary overcame systemic bias and corruption to pursue his calling as a general surgeon. For decades, he served tirelessly in missionary hospitals, offering affordable or free care to those in need, embodying the values of hope and healing. His legacy extends beyond his homeland through his sons' service in the U.S. military and his enduring impact on countless lives. Recently, a simple toothache brought him to our nonprofit clinic, giving us the privilege of caring for a man who has dedicated his life to others. Dr. Hilary’s story reminds us of the transformative power of compassion and the mission we share to uplift the underserved.

Meet Jackie! He found North Charleston Dental Outreach through his church due to tooth pain. Despite past challenges, he's now sober, caring for his disabled wife, and rebuilding their life with church support. After years of drug use, NCDO stepped in, extracting painful teeth and starting a treatment plan.

Meet Whitney! During her consultation, we discovered her wisdom teeth were impacted, although pain-free, a timely recommendation for removal was made. Whitney's dedication to the nonprofit she works for, the Great Heart Project, where she educates children on sustainability in urban gardening, truly inspires us.

Meet Michelle! When an Airbnb she operated caught fire, she suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation while rescuing her guests. Hospitalized for two weeks, she lost both her extra income and the ability to work for some time. After feeling sensitivity in her gums, she came to NCDO and began treatment in our pay-what-you-can donation model.
